Cork College of Further Education and Training (Cork College of FET), today 17th September, was excited to welcome a new cohort of tertiary degree students as they begin their academic journey this year.  Cork College of FET campuses have established deep-rooted relationships with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) both in Ireland and across Europe. These collaborations have allowed approximately 400 students each year to transition seamlessly into higher education. Partnerships with Munster Technological University (MTU) and University College Cork (UCC), forged over decades, have facilitated numerous progression opportunities for students.

Tertiary Degrees are co-designed and co-delivered by Education and Training Boards and Higher Education Institutions to provide seamless pathways from Further Education to Higher Education.

As part of Cork College of Further Education and Training’s (Cork College of FET) expansion, Morrison’s Island Campus is proud to introduce three new programmes under the tertiary umbrella:

  • Social Work (Cork ETB-UCC)
  • General Nursing (Cork ETB-MTU, Kerry Campus)
  • Mental Health Nursing (Cork ETB-MTU, Kerry Campus)

In addition to these offerings, students from Cork College of FET Douglas Street Campus will continue advancing their studies in Digital Animation, Special Effects, and Motion Design (Cork ETB-MTU, Kerry Campus) and Software Development (Cork ETB-MTU, Cork Campus). These programmes reflect the institution’s commitment to providing students with the specialised skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving job market.

Collaboration has been a key factor in the success of tertiary education programmes. Cork College of FET has built strong relationships with MTU, UCC, and other educational institutions across Cork and Kerry. These partnerships have enhanced educational opportunities for students across the region.

Cork College of FET Morrison’s Island Campus was particularly delighted with the development of the Bachelor of Social Work programme in partnership with UCC. This innovative course allows students to split their time between UCC and Morrison’s Island Campus, offering a dynamic learning experience that bridges further and higher education.

As the new academic year begins, students are reminded of the wealth of resources and support available both on-campus and at Cork College of FET. Personal tutors, academic support services, career guidance, and various extracurricular opportunities are on offer. Students are encouraged to engage fully with campus life, from joining societies to starting their own initiatives.

MTU students also benefit from peer support networks and the involvement of Student Engagement Associates (SEA), who are available to help students navigate their academic journey.

In his welcome message to students, Cork ETB Chief Executive Denis Leamy congratulated them on beginning their tertiary education journey, describing these as the best years of their lives. He urged students to fully participate in their learning and engage in all aspects of college life. Mr. Leamy also emphasized that the staff at Cork College of FET take pride in being there to support and assist students in every possible way.
