Cork ETB is pleased to announce the winners of its Midsummer Verse competition: Haiku winner, Brigid O’Connell, Sherkin Island and Limerick winner, Sr. Alphonsus O’Brien, Bandon.
This competition was organised by Lena Cronin, Community Education Facilitator, Cork ETB, in conjunction with CRY104FM radio in Youghal. The proposal was developed as a participative project in which the wider community could engage, at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic was impacting on everyone’s lives. The idea was simple – people were given guidelines on how to write a Haiku or a Limerick and were invited to submit a verse. The eventual winners were selected from the large number of entries received from people throughout the County.
These verses will be read out as part of our “Across the Distance”, virtual performance, that Cork ETB is organising to celebrate Culture night in September. This event will be supported by Cork County Council Arts Office.
Thank you to everyone who participated and congratulations to our 2 winners.
